Being a household name and having your every move documented by the world’s media is bound to make some people turn a little weird. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are two of the most famous people on the planet right now, so they’re by no means immune to this. But when Kim was robbed at gunpoint in Paris recently and her engagement rings were stolen, a story emerged that seems somewhat crazy, even for them.
When Kanye proposed to Kim, he did so in front of all of their family and friends, in a stadium, with a full brass band and fireworks. Oh, and a 15-carat emerald-cut diamond ring that cost $1.6 million dollars. Considering they’re both ultra famous celebrities, that’s a pretty normal way to propose. But bear with us.
Earlier this year Kanye signed a very lucrative deal with Adidas to design shoes for the athletic powerhouse. After he signed the paperwork, he woke up a sleeping Kim to tell her he had something from Adidas to give her. Understandably, Kim thought her loving husband woke her up in the middle of the night to give her a pair of shoes and was not happy, telling him she’d look at them in the morning. But Kanye was insistent, so Kim obliged.
He handed her not a shoebox, but something much smaller – a ring box. Inside was an upgraded engagement ring, 20-carats instead of the measly 15 and a more on-trend cushion cut instead of an emerald. But guess what Kanye had engraved on the band?
Not ‘Kimye Forever’, not song lyrics of his, not even a sweet and simple ‘I love you’. No, Kanye decided on a single word. ‘Adidas’. Why? Because he wanted to joke with Kim that he ‘got her something from Adidas’. Okay then.
I guess if we all had the bank balance of Kim and Kanye, we’d probably do exactly the same thing.
